3 Helpful Tips Before That Big Job Interview

by Terri Castro

I am shamelessly the worst at job interviews. They make me sweaty and anxious. I have no idea what to do, or what to say, ever. What am I supposed to do? I can?t just say, ?I have no idea what the heck I’m doing. Please give me money so I can fund my online shopping habits.?? Although job interviews can be scary, they don?t have to be. You can get through it! Confidence in key, and you will truly shine if you come prepared and ready for the next steps. Here are 3 helpful tips before that big job interview.

1. Research the company

Knowing the company and who you would be working for is a great way to show your devotion to your potential job. It will help employers see that you mean business. Suggest ideas you might have for the company, and don?t be afraid to ask questions! Don’t just research the company, make sure to research your job role also to make sure you know all you’re expected to do, for example an in house or agency account director job role can differ drastically, make sure you know what you’re applying for.

2. Don?t psych yourself out

Don?t be so nervous! Know that your interviewer is probably nervous too, and that they were once in the position you will be in. Know that you?re good enough for the job you applied for and know that the company saw something in you because they?re asking you for an interview! The same goes for phone interviews too. Make sure you prepare your answers before you have the interview, that will, there will be no awkward silences!

3. Dress accordingly

Know the setting of the job, and dress like you mean business. Presentation at a job interview matters more than we think it does. Know when it?s okay to wear certain casual clothes, and when to wear more business-y clothes. This will help you be prepared for whatever the job throws your way. (Also, don?t forget, it?s better to be overdressed than under-dressed!) Don?t be scared. It?s only an interview. Go in feeling knowledgeable, stylish, and confident!

Even if you end up not getting the job you felt like you really wanted, it is all still great practice for your future roles and work experience. Everything you do in life, all of the little tasks, interviews and networking events, they all prepare you for the future.

Utilize those skills and feedback from past interviews in order to help you succeed further in the future! If you feel comfortable, you can always email the person who interviewed you and ask what you can work on in the future.
