5 Self-Care Affirmations

We can get so wrapped up in our lives that we forget what’s really important: ourselves and our self-care. Sometimes, we all need a little pick me up and a reminder to love ourselves. We have gathered up 5 self-care affirmations to help remind you to take a little time for yourself.

Treat self-care like a responsibility

As hard as it may be sometimes, make it a priority neglecting yourself. Treat yourself like the valuable and genuine person you are. Taking care of yourself and doing things to make yourself feel happy should be an essential part of your life. Treat this as a responsibility, not an option. Think about the advice you’d give your friends if they came to you. The same way you’d be caring and tell them to be kind to themselves, try and give yourself that same consideration.

You can be a good person with a kind heart and still say no

The word yes is not the only word in your vocabulary. If there’s something you don’t feel is beneficial to you, or if there’s something you don’t want to do, say no. This took me a while to learn. I would always say yes to things, such as going out or seeing friends, even if I was exhausted. Once I began to learn the word no, I became more in tune with myself and became happier because I was making my own decisions. That’s not to say it’s not important to nurture the friendships and relationships in your life, but it’s already important to set boundaries about what you can and can’t do.

Your speed doesn’t matter. Forward is forward

You don’t have to be 100% perfect all the time. Sometimes, I struggle just to get out of bed. On days like that, I try to complete one task at a time and feel satisfied with what I did. Even if it’s something small, like folding laundry or taking out the trash, I try to feel accomplished and grateful. Don’t feel like you have to be 100% and always on top of things. As long as you’re moving forward, it doesn’t matter what pace you move at. Take things at the speed that works for you and if you’re having a tough period or a difficult time, that’s all part of the process.

It is not overreacting to ask for what you want and need

Never be afraid to ask for something. If you want something a certain way or need something, ask. Don’t feel like you will be degraded for asking for what you want. Once we stop devaluing our emotions, we will value ourselves more and self-care will come easier to us. It’s easy to think expecting more than we should from others but if you don’t ask, you won’t get. Whether that’s maintaining boundaries or asking for support, learn to trust that you should be able to ask for what you need.

Supporting another’s success won’t ever dampen yours.

Just because someone else is successful, it doesn’t mean you should devalue yourself or your own success. You can’t compare yourself to those around you, and as hard as it might feel sometimes to remember this, we’re all on our own individual journeys. By supporting others on their journey, it shows compassion and support – something we all need. Be proud and uplifting to others. Love yourself and love those around you.

With these affirmations, you’ll feel better about yourself and pay more attention to self-care. Never forget that you matter and taking care of yourself first and foremost is the most important thing you can do.
