Five Benefits of Doing Yoga Daily

by Rachael Moore

This year, I’ve been working towards taking better care of myself. I’ve been eating more greens, using more natural skin care, the list goes on, but also I’ve started to take better care of myself mentally and emotionally.

As time’s gone on, I’ve begun to rekindle my love of daily yoga.

I first came across yoga in an after school club when I was twelve and I completely fell in love. So, I made the decision to start my regular practice again, with at least 30 minutes of daily yoga, to see if it would help me in the long run. While admittedly, I don’t always have the time to keep up my yoga practice every day, I do it as often as I can. When I do have the time to practice every day, I’ve noticed changes along the way. There are endless reasons and methods of doing yoga and being at peace with yourself, but here are five strong benefits of doing yoga daily.

1. Productivity

If I practice daily yoga in the mornings, I often feel more clear-minded and ready for the work day ahead of me. I find myself feeling more productive, and find tackling certain tasks easier. I also feel more satisfied when the work day is finished, and feel like I have accomplished something at the end of the day, even if it was something small.

2. A calmer mind by doing daily yoga

Daily yoga is often recommended as a form of exercise that is good for the mind, body and soul. It’s also recommended as a way of relieving the symptoms of anxiety, depression, etc. as it can help ground you in the present moment. For me, this helps calm any anxieties I may be experiencing and helps me have more mental clarity. Having said that, please bear in mind that while this may work for me, it might not work for another.

3. Work that body!

As well as a calmer mind, daily yoga has helped me in means of physical fitness. It’s a good way to tone, aid in weight loss, strengthen the body, and help with flexibility. Regularly practicing even a few times a week made me feel more flexible, less sluggish, and stronger.

4. Deeper sleep

As I mentioned before how daily yoga can help to relax the mind, that relaxation can help with sleep. If you prefer to do yoga in the evenings, or before you go to bed, practicing a sequence specially suited to aid in sleep can help. I’ve found as I began my practice, I’ve been able to sleep deeper, as well as have more vivid dreams.

5. Vivid dreams

Don’t be alarmed if you suddenly start having dreams that are incredibly vivid. I’ve always been a light sleeper, and found that through my daily yoga practice, my sleep has become deeper. With the deeper sleep has come the more vivid dreams. I put it down to feeling calmer generally, but I’m not at authority to say why it causes this, so I cannot say specifically as how it works, but it does!

Since beginning my practice of daily yoga, my overall well-being has been much more positive. I feel empowered and capable of any task given to me.

It makes me feel strong, and at peace with myself and my surroundings.

Overall, daily yoga has become a good form of self care for me to maintain mental clarity, take care of my body, and maintain a positive outlook on all aspects of life.
