Finding Your Soul Mate in Unexpected Places

by Taylor Team

Everyone thinks they have a certain type when it comes to men: Tall, dark and handsome, blonde and blue eyed, the bad boy, the funny man, the hopeless romantic… We create our dream man in our heads, analyze past lovers and our mistakes, and then narrow it all down to a particular ‘type’ that The One must slot neatly into. We’ve all been there, sat around with our best girlfriends, laughing about how wrong this one man was or how perfect that other guy would be… comparing our types and tastes in men, as if we were likening our favourite stilettoes. Well, I bet your type is wrong.

Everyone thinks they know what type they want but in truth, your soul mate is probably the person you least expect. The type you would never bet on.

Why? Because opposites attract and yes, I am writing in clichés.

Well, the reason it’s cliché is because it’s a very repeated phrase. And it’s been repeated, because it’s true!

Your soul mate might be the person you least expect, because he’s different,  because his motives are not the same, or maybe he sees things in a way that you don’t…. For a lot of people that concept is intimidating and pretty unfamiliar. We often think that our significant other needs to be like to us, but perhaps it’s time we start looking on the opposite end of the spectrum. Start looking for those who can fill in where we are lacking.

We think that if we don’t see eye-to-eye, then there’s no way for a relationship to grow. While that carries truth, the notion of opposites attracting and balancing is also true.

From my personal observations and experiences, a soul mate can be someone so opposite from you that you balance each other out. You become equal parts to the relationship as a whole. He lacks your attention to detail and assertiveness to get things done, but you lack his ability to just go with the flow. He lacks your view of the world through rose-colored glasses and so he helps you to see things for what they are.

“There are dreamers, and there are realists in the world. You would think the dreamers find the dreamers and the realists find the realists, but more than often the opposite is true. You see, the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists? Well, without the dreamers they might never get off the ground.”

Balance.

Someone who brings you such balance to the areas of your life that you didn’t even realize were so unbalanced. It’s the ying and yang concept. Together you are whole and complete.

So the next time you’re considering whether someone is your type, think outside the box. Because The One might be who you least expect!
