Nomi Leasure… and the Quarter Life Crisis.

by Nomi Leasure

How do you know what you want to do with your life? I’m 22 and feel like everyone around me has everything figured out in terms of their careers. There’s so many things I enjoy doing but I have no idea what job roles are even available. How do I even start? Lisa, London

Hm, sounds like you’ve been infected with a Quarter Life Crisis. It’s contagious and plaguing all twenty-somethings. Truly an epidemic. First thing I have to say: NO ONE HAS IT FIGURED OUT. Okay, now that that’s established let’s reverse think this thing. You know what you enjoy doing, but aren’t sure how to really format that into some sort of career. Well, here’s what my tarot card readers told me. Instead of focusing on the one, super specific, hard-to-pin-down thing that you want to do, switch your motives to finding what you don’t want to do (it’s like, a Buddhist thing or whatever). Our gen is pretty much known for having career ADD. We don’t want to stick with anything for too long because, well, shit gets boring and then other shit looks more interesting. So try things, see what you don’t like and say, “Okay, not that.” Sooner or later the bullseye will appear. Also, watch this TEDTalk about why we’re the greatest generation and realize you are not alone.

This is definitely an epidemic! Everyone now is really questioning every aspect of their lives. And I think it’s a good thing to challenge the norm and ask yourself ‘what do I want out of life’. It’s just hard to find the answers. The Ted Talk was great.
