Nomi Leasure… On When To Quit Your Job.

Should I quit my job? The only reason I haven’t so far is because I really need the money but I work long hours for bad pay and my boss is horrible to me. She treats me like a slave and makes me do all her personal errands. I’ve been looking for other jobs but find it so hard to find anything suitable for me. If I do, they don’t reply to my applications. I’m thinking maybe I should just stick at this job but I feel so drained. Help? – Katie, London

Definitely quit. I mean, don’t go broke and homeless for Christ sake, but dude, definitely quit this job. I feel a gig should encompass at least one of three things to stay.

1.) a company whose mission you really align with

2.) a growth opportunity where you’re gaining skills and experience you know you’ll use down the road 

3.) working under a person you really respect and admire who can be a mentor to you.

Life’s short, these are the hottest days of your life, hand in your pink slip.

Taylor Team note: We have to say, we so agree with Nomi here. Whilst it’s definitely important to support yourself and make sure you can afford clothes and food and wine (the basics, of course) it’s also not good for your mental state and your health if you’re constantly stressed and depressed. It seems like your current role doesn’t encompass any of Nomi’s three job deal breakers, and if you’re not gaining anything positive from it, why continue? Try and focus all of that energy into finding a job that brings you some happiness and somewhere you are appreciated! Work on your CV, boost that covering letter and sell yourself. A little bit of confidence goes a long way. Good luck!
