Resist. Resist. Resist. This has become the mantra for so many men and women across the U.S. and the world as opposition is being met and people are demanding their voices be heard. I am inspired by large groups of people peacefully coming together to inspire change, make their voices heard, and not give in to the status quo.

After attending some protests and marches myself, I realized that it’s so important to keep your stamina during these events. Most people that are out protesting have full-time jobs, families, and you know, a life. These people are managing to fit in protesting for causes they believe in into their already busy schedules.

If you find yourself protesting for a cause you care about, here are some snacks + self-care must-haves to keep your stamina going so you can fight the good fight.

I know you probably know to bring water, but bring a reusable water bottle that is insulated so it keeps your water hot or cold, depending on your preference. This is especially important during the cold winter months or hot summer months. Having access to drinkable water will help you stay hydrated and keep you energized.

Protein Bars

Protein bars are a great way to give your body a boost and ensure you are getting the proper nutrients. Opt for a bar that is high in protein and low in sugar. Most bars, such as NutriGrain bars or granola bars, tend to be filled with sugar and will most likely leave you crashing later on.

Nuts + Seeds

Dry goods, such as nuts and seeds, are important to include because they are full of protein, will give you energy, and are easy to pack along. Rather than buying a pre-packaged mix that’s most likely filled with sugar, make your own to ensure what you put in it. Add unsweetened dried fruit for a simple sweet taste.

Avocado + Crackers

Healthy fats are important to keep your brain functioning throughout the day. And when you are protesting, you need all the brain power you can get. Bring a whole avocado with some crackers to enjoy when you need a little brain boost. Pre-cut the avocado in half and keep the halves connected until you eat it. This way, there is no cutting needed and as soon as you are ready to eat, you can simply scoop out the avocado and enjoy plain or with crackers.

Fruits with Flesh

Pack fresh fruits that have a thicker flesh that are easily accessible and transportable. Apples, oranges, and bananas are all great snacks that have a tough exterior that can last in your backpack throughout the day. Oranges are especially great because they contain vitamin C, which has been shown to help lower blood pressure and lower levels of cortisol, making this fruit an ultimate stress reliever. Just the smell of oranges can help bring a sense of joy, energy and happiness, which can help you also relieve negative vibes you might be feeling from the opposition.
